This is my painting for the second annual dinner auction for the local SPCA. The first was the dog in my gallery. Cat hair is much harder to paint than dog hair I found, made more difficult from the cat being further away. Be brutal with your critique - I'm not sure if I like the grass.
Absolutely gorgeous! The opalescence of the shingles is astounding. I really love how you captured the cat's fur--you've got the multilayered "ticked" look exactly right. I think what I like most about this picture is the unity that the grey scheme brings to it, and yet all of the colors that emerge from the grey--nobody properly appreciates what lovely colors can come out of grey...
Anyway, fantastic job and wonderful mood. Is this oil or acrylic? (or something else altogether?)
Thanks! I'm always very appreciative of comments and favs of my paintings. They don't get much attention - probably because so much of my gallery is vectors. They kinda get buried. And partially because I think paintings are less popular than digital arts now...
It's acrylic - I've never tried oil, but want to. Thanks very much for the kinda comments!
No problem! This painting deserves it! I was just browsing your gallery and it popped out at me, for being so photo-realistic but having the personality of a painting anyhow.
I wouldn't say that paintings are less popular than digital arts; certainly, a lot more people are discovering Photoshop and Painter, but I expect it's just that a lot more digital work gets shown on DA because it's hard scanning/photographing real media so it looks nice! Also, I dunno, I guess "paintings" with digital media are pretty much the same as real paintings--they take similar amounts of time, effort, and brain-cells.
This is an absolutely wonderful piece. I love it.
The colors are marvelous and I myself enjoy every aspect of it, including the grass, but most especially the cat.

Very nicely done.
