I couldn't think of a title for this one - I hope it's ok. This one took about 4-5 hours I think, and is my first Illustrator drawing of a person, or of an animate object for that matter. Also trying to use gradient meshes more. I found it extremely hard to do - I'm not sure if I'm happy with it yet.

*EDIT* - I changed the image a bit so that the shoulder blade and shadow ear the eye are less hard edged.

Very nicely done. I've never been able to master the gradient mesh tool. I think you are onto something here, you should do more of these.

Thanks - you've seemed to have mastered everything else though!

Thanks! I've played around with the mesh, but wasn't too happy with the results.

it's better than before, but still draws too much attention, have you tryed using the same mesh as the body to make that shadow ?.. or try to make that shadow with a mesh and not shapes with transparency. Make a mesh of it and the blend the mesh with transparency all togheter with the skin.

I tried using the same mesh as the body for the shadow, but couldn't get the mesh to co-operate to look nice.

Can you blend with a transparent object? That's what I tried initially and it wouldn't let me (it basically acted as if the transparent object was filled with the same colour as the coloured object). Can you specify opacity values in meshes?
